About this role

Ensures Guthrie campuses are safe and secure for patients, employees, and visitors by routinely patrolling all buildings and grounds. Responds as required to requests for assistance from patients, employees, or visitors. Reports to the Regional Coordinator for Security or designee; applicants must submit to fingerprinting for background check.

Tours hospital campus and grounds frequently to secure open departments, lock closed areas, and check perimeter entrances during designated hours. Prevents unauthorized entry during non-visiting hours and maintains high visibility in the emergency department. Observes for unsafe conditions and reports to supervisor.

Assists nursing personnel by transporting patients within buildings or to vehicles, responds promptly to calls for help. Restrains patients, visitors, or employees when necessary to protect personnel, property, or aid treatment. Acts courteously toward all patients, visitors, and staff.

Completes detailed incident reports and submits to supervisor; completes minimum eight hours continuing education yearly on security issues. Maintains relationships with local police and fire officials. Demonstrates good judgment, attends update sessions and departmental meetings.

Requirements

  • NYS registration as security guard required for New York sites
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Classroom training in a field relevant to security functions with behavioral sciences strongly preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency preferred
  • One or more years experience in institutional security, preferably in a health care facility
  • Working knowledge of departmental functions within a hospital or health care facility
  • Working knowledge of state and federal security regulations affecting hospitals
  • Experienced in effectively interacting with people

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high degree of visibility in the hospital emergency department
