About this role

Providence Alaska Medical Center is hiring a Senior Security Officer to join our security team in Anchorage. This full-time role operates on 10-hour variable shifts, 40 hours per week, under the general supervision of the Director of Security and Safety.

Canine officers perform all standard security duties while working alongside a specially trained security service dog. Responsibilities include responding to radio calls where the dog’s presence enhances security operations, providing cover and assistance to fellow officers, and ensuring timely medical care for the assigned dog.

Officers maintain proficiency through required training and are responsible for daily care, veterinary visits, and reporting. They also prepare and submit logs of daily, weekly, and monthly activities to the Lead Security Officer while upholding department physical standards.

Requirements

Three years of experience as a security officer, or two years in healthcare security, or one year as a police officer or security officer with an accredited police/corrections academy
Upon request, must provide proof of driver license and auto insurance and comply with state driving laws
Preferred: Coursework or training as a K9 Handler
Preferred: Satisfactory completion of a PAMC approved K9 handler academy within three months of hire

Responsibilities

Provide security for patients, visitors, and staff on the campus of Providence Alaska Medical Center
Perform all duties of a security officer with the added responsibility of working a security service dog
Respond to radio calls where the police dog's presence furthers security operations goals
Provide timely cover and assistance upon requests from other security officers
Maintain required standards of proficiency for the assigned dog through required training
Care for and maintain the assigned dog, including arranging medical care and veterinary transport
Prepare and submit to the Lead Security Officer all appropriate reports and logs of daily, weekly, and monthly activities
Maintain physical appearance and standards as required by Department policy
