Help keep the Flagler College community safe while building meaningful connections with students, faculty, and staff in this part-time role. This position blends public safety, service, and teamwork in a dynamic campus environment. College Safety and Security Officers maintain safety, enforce rules, and protect life and property on campus and off-campus properties.

Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive patrols of buildings and grounds on foot, vehicle, or golf cart. Respond to routine calls, priority incidents, suspicious activity, trespassers, and law violators in a timely manner. Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and prepare online reports using department RMS.

Interact and communicate with students, faculty, staff, visitors, St. Augustine Police, and Resident Advisors in a friendly, professional manner. Monitor CCTV, alarms, fire systems, and two-way radios. Assist with fire drills, escorts, parking enforcement, and special events like athletic games and commencement.

Report maintenance, health, and safety issues through established procedures. Attend roll call briefings and in-service training. As an essential employee, report during severe weather or emergencies, maintaining knowledge of college handbooks and SOP manual.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years’ post-high school general work experience
  • A valid Florida driver's license
  • Basic computer literacy and skills, to include the use of Microsoft Office Suite, MS Word or equivalent, Outlook, email, etc.
  • Knowledge of Florida law, security and safety practices, and law enforcement principles in a college environment

Responsibilities

  • Interact and communicate with students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly, courteous, professional manner
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventive patrol of buildings and grounds on foot, in a vehicle or golf cart
  • Respond to routine calls for service and non-routine incidents; address suspicious activity, trespassers, and law violators
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of civil, criminal, or unusual incidents and prepare online reports
  • Monitor closed-circuit television systems, burglar alarms, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and two-way radio communication
  • Assist Residence Life staff in conducting fire evacuation drills and evacuate during emergencies
  • Check vehicles for valid parking permits, issue tickets, and manage traffic immobilizing boots
  • Provide walking and mobile escorts; assist ill, injured or disabled persons
