About this role
Under general supervision, this role enforces all rules, regulations, and instructions to provide absolute protective security for the New York Power Authority. As a shift or scheduled worker, you will be responsible for controlling all points of vehicle and personnel access to prevent unauthorized entry.
Daily duties include conducting regular foot and mobile patrols, searching personnel and vehicles for unauthorized materials, and providing security escorts for visitors, contractors, and vendors. You will also inspect fire extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus, and first aid supplies, and must obtain certification in First Aid in the Workplace.
This role fosters a strong working relationship with local law enforcement and provides crowd control for special events. You will also perform PBX functions, direct incoming calls, operate the paging system, and act as a dispatcher for the two-way radio system.
You will attend training to become an active participant in the Emergency Response Team, responding to all on-site emergencies. The negotiated pay rate for this union-represented position is $28.70 per hour, with NYPA committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Requirements
- High school graduate with two years of experience in a related field
- Valid New York State Driver's license
- Must meet all standards of the New York State Guard Act and be able to obtain and maintain a Security Guard License with the State of New York Licensing Department
- Must be a certified climber and obtain certification in First Aid in the Workplace
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills to deal with the public daily
- Must be familiar with computer software and able to write clear, concise reports
- Must be in general good health as determined by a physician on an annual basis
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment examination and background check, including polygraph, criminal history check, and physical exam with drug screen
Responsibilities
- Control all points of vehicle and personnel access to prevent unauthorized entry through personal interaction, video monitors, or remote gate operation
- Conduct searches of personnel and access vehicles to detect unauthorized materials that could be used for industrial sabotage
- Perform regular foot and mobile patrols to ensure facility security and detect trespassers
- Badge visitors, contractors, and vendors, and provide security escorts as needed
- Inspect all fire extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus, automatic electronic defibrillators, eye wash stations, and replenish first aid supplies throughout the facility
- Provide crowd control for special events sponsored by NYPA
- Perform PBX functions by directing incoming calls, operating the paging system, and acting as dispatcher for the two-way radio system
- Attend training to become an active participant in the Emergency Response Team and respond to all on-site emergencies
