About this role

The Junior K9 Handler screens cargo in compliance with TSA rules and regulations. The role requires completing a four to eight week minimum team training course and certification prior to mobilization to the assigned location. The handler commands a trained working dog to support screening operations.

Daily work includes participating in CCSP related training to search cargo and identify potential threats. The handler conducts authorized representative duties using X-ray, physical search, and explosive trace detection as needed while maintaining all training records.

Work conditions vary from a busy training environment to fieldwork with frequent interruptions. Outdoor duties in inclement weather including heat, cold, and humidity are required along with nights, weekends, and holiday hours dictated by customer schedules.

The assigned canine must live inside the employee’s residence which must be adequate, indoor, and climate-controlled. The canine living area is subject to recurring inspections and the employee must operate a company vehicle during on-site training.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must have held citizenship for a minimum of three years prior to date of application
  • Must be able to obtain a Known Traveler Number (KTN) within four to six weeks of employment
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge within four to six weeks of employment
  • Provide adequate indoor climate-controlled residence for the canine subject to recurring inspections

Responsibilities

  • Participate in CCSP related training to search cargo and identify potential threats
  • Conduct authorized representative duties related to X-ray, physical search, and explosive trace detection as needed
  • Perform Junior Handler duties while commanding a trained working dog
  • Maintain training records for the assigned certified canine
  • Provide care and maintenance of the assigned certified canine that lives inside the employee’s residence
  • Maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances
  • Operate company vehicle during on-site training
