About this role

As a full-time nightshift Lieutenant Security Officer at Texas Children's Hospital West Campus, you will lead, motivate, train, and supervise security teams in protecting staff, patients, visitors, and hospital assets. This role requires decisive leadership during overnight operations.

Your day-to-day involves providing supervisory responsibility in planning, organizing, and directing the work of subordinate personnel. You will conduct routine inspections of personal protection equipment and department-authorized firearms, patrol hospital grounds, and ensure smooth traffic flow while covering shifts and providing breaks to officers on posts.

You will support the Security Operations Manager by providing input to improve daily operations and policies. Proactive communication across shifts ensures minimum staffing levels are maintained, and you will respond to emergencies, potentially using an AED, while promoting a customer-service-oriented environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Four years of security, law enforcement, or military experience required.
Ability to obtain LCSO Commissioned Security Officer certification from the Texas Department of Public Safety within 90 days of entering the role.
Valid driver's license to operate Texas Children's Hospital owned vehicles.
Must successfully complete all required training and exams for initial and ongoing certifications.
Associate's degree preferred; a bachelor's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

Assist in conducting Basic Training, Department Training, and In-Service Training as needed.
Assign available personnel in an efficient manner, ensuring minimum staffing levels are achieved.
Ensure security posts are secured, hospital campus is actively patrolled, and traffic flow is smooth and customer-service-oriented.
Verify that all equipment, including radios and keys, are functional at the beginning of each shift and report variances to management.
Maintain and consistently review the staffing calendar to ensure minimum security coverage is met at all times.
Escalate any requests for additional, overtime, or gap coverage to the operations manager proactively.
Supervise, train, and evaluate sergeants, commissioned officers, and security officers on an assigned shift.
Respond to emergencies and may use an AED or assist in providing basic life support as needed.
