About this role
Under general supervision as a shift or scheduled worker, the Security Guard enforces all rules, regulations and instructions to provide absolute protective security. The role centers on preventing unauthorized access and protecting the facility from industrial sabotage or trespass.
Daily duties include controlling vehicle and personnel access points, badging visitors and contractors, and conducting searches of people and vehicles. Regular foot and mobile patrols detect trespassers while inspections cover intrusion alarms, fire extinguishers, and emergency equipment.
Guards foster working relationships with local law enforcement and serve on the Emergency Response Team. Additional tasks include crowd control at events, operating the PBX and radio systems, and checking property removal passes.
Annual physician exams confirm fitness for duty. Guards obtain certification in First Aid in the Workplace and must be certified climbers while completing required security and emergency training.
Requirements
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiar with computer software and able to write clear concise reports.
- High School graduate with two years experience in related field and valid New York State Driver license.
- Meet all standards of the New York State Guard Act and obtain Security Guard License with the State of New York.
- Successfully complete pre-employment examination, background check including polygraph, criminal history check, and physical exam with drug screen.
- Maintain general good health as determined by a physician on an annual basis.
Responsibilities
- Control all points of vehicle and personnel access to prevent unauthorized entry through personal interaction or remote gate operation.
- Badge visitors, contractors and vendors and provide security escorts.
- Conduct searches of personnel and access vehicles to detect unauthorized materials.
- Conduct regular foot and mobile patrols to ensure facility security and detect trespassers.
- Foster a strong working relationship with local law enforcement.
- Inspect fire extinguishers, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, Automatic Electronic Defibrillators and eye wash stations.
- Attend training to become an active participant in the Emergency Response Team and respond to all emergencies on site.
- Conduct inspections of security intrusion alarm systems and perform all associated security duties.
