About this role

This position is responsible for all aspects of security and safety at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, ensuring the personal safety of employees, patients, visitors, and physicians. The role involves performing a variety of duties and rounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

Day-to-day tasks include building and ground patrols, investigating thefts, disturbances, and suspicious activity, and controlling facility access by identifying individuals entering sensitive areas. The guard also assists staff with patient interventions, including those on 5150 holds, and maintains open communication with local law enforcement.

The role operates within a healthcare environment that values clear, concise, professional communication and adherence to AIDET principles for patient interactions. The guard is expected to act with a sense of urgency, report equipment or environmental issues, and uphold HIPAA regulations.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform building and ground patrols to ensure hospital safety.
  • Experience investigating thefts, disturbances, and suspicious activity.
  • Skill in facility access control, including identification and locking/unlocking procedures.
  • Competence in assisting with patient interventions, including those on 5150 holds.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for professional interaction with coworkers, patients, and law enforcement.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to abide by them.
  • Willingness to speak up to stop the line and escalate potential safety events.
  • Commitment to attending monthly training and upholding AIDET patient communication standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily duties to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and assure the personal safety of employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Conduct building and ground patrols to assure the safety of the hospital.
  • Investigate thefts, disturbances, and suspicious activity.
  • Control facility access by identifying individuals entering facilities, locking and unlocking sensitive areas, and activating/deactivating anti-theft alarm systems.
  • Assist staff with patient interventions, including those on 5150 holds, and manage disruptions by visitors or other staff members.
  • Use clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, and all internal and external customers.
  • Apply AIDET principles in interactions with patients and family members.
  • Report equipment and environmental issues for repair and complete monthly training assignments.
