About this role

This Security Officer position is dedicated to VCU Health's Children's Pavilion on Brook Rd, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and patients. The role focuses on courteous assistance while enforcing hospital rules and regulations, projecting a professional and reassuring image.

Working Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights from 6pm-6:30am, the officer will de-escalate agitated patients, both individually and as part of a team, and prevent potentially risky or violent situations. This unarmed, non-sworn security position requires strong recall, reasoning, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, multi-priority healthcare setting.

The environment includes frequent interaction with pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, requiring adaptability and a calm demeanor. Officers must be comfortable with prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting of 20-50 lbs, all while maintaining a positive and professional presence.

This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized experience in pediatric healthcare security within a major medical center, with exposure to de-escalation techniques and team-based crisis intervention. It is an ideal fit for those seeking consistent weekend night shifts and meaningful public service.
