About this role
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Relational Security Officer to join the Protection Services team at Lily's Community Health Centre in Vancouver, BC. This role establishes a supportive presence to emphasize, maintain, and ensure security of persons and property in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Working under general supervision and reporting to the Manager, Safety & Prevention, the Relational Security Officer provides a proactive approach to managing potential violence and aggression within the healthcare setting. This includes ensuring a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors through trauma-informed interventions and safety & prevention services.
The Relational Security Officer works as part of a dedicated Relational Security Team that promotes a variety of trauma-informed practices. This work is framed within VCH's commitments to Indigenous cultural safety, anti-racism, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

Requirements
- Current BC Security Guard License.
- OFA Level II Certification.
- Certification of Training Completion in Advanced Security Training, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Successful completion of the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum and Advanced Security Training.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work and operate related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Establish a supportive presence at healthcare sites to emphasize, maintain, and ensure security of persons and property.
- Provide a proactive approach to managing potential violence and aggression within the healthcare setting.
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Work as part of a Relational Security Team promoting trauma-informed interventions and safety & prevention services.
- Operate related security equipment and carry out duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Respond to security incidents and de-escalate situations using trauma-informed practices.
- Support VCH's commitments to Indigenous cultural safety, anti-racism, and diversity, equity and inclusion.
