About this role

Under the supervision of the Security Supervisor, this role is responsible for maintaining the security of the building, grounds, and all persons within the healthcare facility. Officers also provide patient observations as ordered by a physician, ensuring a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

Daily duties include patrolling the hospital campus, monitoring access points, and responding to security incidents in a professional and courteous manner. Officers must be able to travel to multiple locations on any given day as requested, demonstrating flexibility and reliability.

Working as part of a dedicated security team, the officer handles confidential information with discretion and interacts respectfully with diverse individuals. The role requires meeting deadlines, managing multiple priorities, and enhancing teamwork through effective role modeling.

This position offers opportunities for professional growth through required certifications such as CPI and BLS, which are obtained within 90 days of hire. Candidates with previous security experience are preferred, and the role provides a foundation for a career in healthcare security.

Requirements

  • High School education required
  • Valid NYS driver's license clear of violations consistent with FLH Policy
  • NYS Security Guard Registration, including completion of 8-hour pre-assignment training
  • BLS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation
  • Preferred: 16-hour Security Guard course and CPI obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with people in a professional and courteous manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security of the building, grounds, and all persons therein under the supervision of the Security Supervisor
  • Provide patient observations as ordered by a physician
  • Patrol hospital facilities to deter and detect security threats
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and incidents in a professional manner
  • Travel to multiple locations on any given day as requested
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
