About this role
This role provides a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of WellSpan Health. The Security Officer protects system buildings, assets, and premises as assigned, with a primary focus on the Philhaven Hospital campus.
Day-to-day duties include patrolling buildings and parking lots to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion, as well as responding to emergency situations such as accidents, fire alarms, and crimes in progress. Officers also provide physical restraint of psychiatric patients when needed and secure weapons and contraband.
Working within a structured team environment, this officer coordinates with supervisors and serves as a Charge Officer as needed, conducting shift huddles and ensuring appropriate staffing. The role requires close collaboration with local police and fire departments during incidents.
This position offers the opportunity to develop advanced security and crisis response skills in a healthcare setting, with ongoing training requirements and the potential to take on supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a Supervisor or Security Officer III.
Requirements
- Ability to patrol and secure buildings and premises for extended periods
- Capability to respond to emergency situations and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Willingness to provide physical restraint of psychiatric patients and confront unauthorized persons
- Ability to complete vehicle and monthly inspections including panic and fire extinguisher checks
- Competence in using badge access control systems and securing patient valuables
- Willingness to work at any post within the assigned setting and on rotating holidays
- Ability to remain current on all required trainings and attend educational sessions
Responsibilities
- Patrols buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion
- Patrols parking lots to ensure safety of individuals and security of parked vehicles
- Responds to emergency situations including accidents, fire alarms, and crimes in progress
- Provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and secures weapons and contraband
- Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings
- Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports and maintains documentation
- Conducts routine visual inspections and reports safety or fire hazards
- Serves as Charge Officer, conducting shift huddles and reviewing incidents as needed
