About this role
This role is responsible for protecting company property and staff by maintaining a safe and secure environment at Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center. The Security Officer positions themselves within a building entrance, specifically at or near the front desk and check-in area, to ensure all employees and visitors are properly greeted and checked in.
Day-to-day duties include patrolling hospital buildings and grounds to deter and detect criminal activity, monitoring security cameras and alarms, and controlling pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The officer responds promptly to disturbances, acute medical events, fire alarms, missing children incidents, and active shooter situations, providing leadership and ensuring the safety of all persons and property.
This role is part of a dedicated security team within a healthcare environment, working 12-hour night shifts including holidays. The officer serves as a visible point of contact to reassure staff and visitors, and is responsible for enforcing hospital policies and procedures related to safety and security.
Officers have the opportunity to develop expertise in healthcare security protocols, emergency response, and access control systems. Successful completion of all mandatory training is required, and the role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on patient and staff safety.
Requirements
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including holidays, and be available for call-back assignments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods (up to four hours).
- Familiarity with EZ Lobby and Rep Trex computer systems for managing vendor badge access.
- Ability to follow proper security protocols for obtaining and issuing proper identification.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor while addressing complaints or concerns.
- Must attend and successfully complete all mandatory training.
Responsibilities
- Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to deter and detect criminal activity, suspicious behavior, and unauthorized access.
- Monitor security cameras, alarms, and other surveillance equipment to ensure the safety of the premises.
- Secure entrances, exits, and restricted areas to prevent breaches or theft.
- Respond promptly to disturbances involving team members, patients, and visitors, de-escalating situations to ensure safety.
- Respond to all acute medical events to assist clinical staff as needed.
- Respond to fire alarms and participate in fire suppression, assisting team members, patients, and visitors.
- Verify the identity of visitors and vendors, and issue and manage team member badges using EZ Lobby and Rep Trex systems.
- Prepare well-written, detailed, and accurate incident reports for all security-related events using the IMC computer system.
