About this role

The VP, Executive Protection Specialist joins Synchrony’s Executive Protection Team to provide personnel security and safety for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). This role involves conducting threat assessments, developing comprehensive protection plans, and executing them through advanced security reviews. Efforts collaborate with Operations and Logistical Planning, plus Intelligence and Investigations Teams.

Day-to-day duties include utilizing in-depth risk assessments and intelligence to identify threats, vulnerabilities, and gaps, then implementing proactive strategies. Provide physical security via preparation, detection, and response to threats, while maintaining a protective perimeter. Actively perform surveillance detection by tracking suspicious activity and monitoring surroundings.

Plan secure travel with route planning, advance checks, and logistics management, alongside event security assessing venues and coordinating access control. Respond swiftly to incidents, de-escalate situations, and liaise with event security, law enforcement, and stakeholders. Ensure safe ingress, egress, and client safety during public appearances.

Maintain high physical fitness and firearms proficiency as required by regulations. Demonstrate flexibility for domestic and international travel often on short notice, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Uphold discretion and situational awareness in a high-stakes executive environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years law enforcement with emphasis on protective security and HR218 designation or ability to gain it
  • Or minimum 10 years experience in protective security operations corporate, military, or law enforcement with ability to legally carry weapon domestically
  • Proven ability to conduct EP related threat assessments, risk analysis, and execute EP engagements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally often on short notice
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent observational and situational awareness skills
  • Advanced driving skills and defensive driving techniques

Responsibilities

  • Conduct threat assessments and risk mitigation utilizing intelligence to identify threats, vulnerabilities, and develop proactive security strategies
  • Provide protection detail through physical security, preparation, detection, response to threats, and maintaining protective perimeter
  • Perform surveillance detection by actively identifying and tracking potential surveillance efforts and suspicious activity
  • Plan and coordinate secure travel arrangements including route planning, advance security checks, and transportation logistics
  • Assess and secure event venues, manage access control, coordinate with local security, and ensure safe ingress and egress
  • React swiftly to security incidents, coordinate with emergency services, and de-escalate tense situations
  • Maintain liaison and communication with client security teams, law enforcement, and other stakeholders
  • Maintain physical fitness and firearms proficiency as required by regulations and situations
