About this role

Mayo Clinic Global Security Officers provide a professional level of customer service and security presence. They proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property and security sensitive areas. Officers assist visitors, patients, and staff as needed and help prevent and deter fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc.

Officers utilize a security vehicle on a regular or occasional basis, enforce Mayo policies, and respond to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing. They prepare incident reports and activity logs. Officers may work in the Security control centers.

Security Officers adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations and manage altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner. They operate and communicate on a two-way radio and exhibit good judgment, maturity, initiative, tact, and diplomacy. Officers frequently walk, stand, stoop, bend, lift, pull, climb, reach, push, and occasionally run.

Officers assist patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations, including handling evacuation devices to transport patients to safety. They make effective decisions as emergency first responders and work as team members with law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel. Officers are confident in stressful situations.

Officers work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations. This position may be required to carry and deploy a taser. Staff participate in routine and ongoing training and development programs.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or related field preferred
  • Minimum two years of experience in customer service, military, security position, or similar role
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • Experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy
  • Strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and employees
  • Ability to remain calm, assume control of emergency situations, and restrain potentially violent individuals
